Beverly Foundation Awards Grant to Rensselaer County

Dec. 20, 2002- Rensselaer County has received a national grant award for their transportation program. The selection was made by the Beverly Foundation with the support of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety of Washington,  DC.

 They were one of three programs selected nationwide to receive the 2002 STAR Search program award grant for their Supplemental Transportation Program (STP) .

 The award read in part, "This award is in recognition of outstanding achievement in providing a quality Supplemental Transportation Program for seniors. Your efforts to provide community-based transportation services to enhance the quantity and quality of life for seniors are commended."

 The Beverly Foundation has prepared profiles of all of the programs from across the country into a directory of STPs for use by seniors. In the coming months, the foundation will be making these materials available to assist seniors and caregivers identify local transportation options and to provide program models that other organizations and groups across the country can use as a template.

 The Foundation is also creating a STP Mobilizer Clearinghouse which will contain the material, as well as other resources that are being prepared to encourage the development of friendly senior transportation.
