November is National Family Caregiver Month
National Family Caregivers Month (NFC Month) — observed every
November — is a nationally recognized month celebrated to draw
attention to the many challenges facing family caregivers, advocate
for stronger public policy to address family caregiving issues, and
raise awareness about community programs that support family

NYSOFA Director Neal Lane's Caregiver
Statement

Excerpt from Director Lane's statement: "The New
York State Office for the Aging is pleased to honor New York
caregivers during November -- National Family Caregiver Month. These
are the family, friends and neighbors who selflessly give of
themselves to help support older people and adults with disabilities
as well as grandparents and other older relatives who care for
children..... This year’s theme emphasizes the need for caregivers
to protect their health in order to have a more satisfying life and
be better able to provide their loved one with the best care

Meet Grandpa Jim
Meet Jim Richards. Active senior and WWII veteran. Living in
large, modern seniors' complex, with his wife, Iris. Loves music,
and when he’s up to it, he plays in a band called "The New Bentwood
Rockers". Loves to spend time with daughter Elly and her family
(also loves the silence when they all go home). Reminisces about the
war times with his buddies at the local legion, guys who are fewer
in number every year. Heart and back problems confine him sometimes,
and he’s not as patient as he used to be, but his sense of humor and
his love for his wife, Iris, keep him going strong. View description

Search Feature added to Caregiver Web Site
As
more information is added to the Caregiver Resource Center web site,
it becomes challenging to locate materials. To address this
situation, we have added a search feature on the home page. Simply
enter a keyword, press the button, and a list of "hits" will appear.
We will be redesigning and adding resources to the web site in
the coming months, so we welcome submission of materials as well as
suggestions for improvement. Please e-mail Laura Cameron at the
e-mail link in upper right column of this e-News.
