How Do You Provide Respite?
Helping Caregivers Take A Well-Needed Break
From families looking for care for their elders so that they can
take a vacation, to grandparents raising grandchildren who face a
two month long school break, respite services are in high demand
during the summer months. Research has shown that respite is the
single most requested service offered by the National Family
Caregiver Support Progam, as well as the service that provides the
most significant level of stress relief.

Best Practices from the Field - "Birthday
Celebration"
Yates County sent us an idea supplied by
the husband of a woman with advanced Alzheimer's who currently
resides in a Nursing Home.
"With the help of the Social Director at the Nursing Home where
my wife resides, I was able to make my wife's birthday have some
meaning. On her birthday, I bought a sheet pizza for the lunch of
the staff of the Nursing Home. All day long when the staff saw my
wife, they called her by name, wished her Happy Birthday or thanked
her for lunch. Even though my wife was unaware of her birthday, she
had a day with special meaning."
